What is Dexron VI compatible with? ›

CAM2 DEXRON®-VI Multi-Vehicle Full Synthetic ATF is recommended for use in: GM DEXRON®-VI, DEXRON® III/III(H)/IIE, DEXRON® II, Ford MERCON® LV, SP, V, Hyundai/Kia SP-II/III/IV, Toyota WS, T-III, T-IV Mercedes Benz®, Honda® Z-1, Allison®, and Nissan® Matic Fluids.

Dexron VI is a high-performance Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) designed to provide superior protection and performance for modern automatic transmissions. It offers enhanced oxidation stability, improved wear protection, and better low-temperature performance compared to other transmission fluids.

The reality is that Dex VI is best only for newer vehicles. Speed tells us that he experimented with using Dexron VI in an older vehicle originally intended for Dexron III and found that the converter's stall speed increased slightly which is understandable given Dexron VI's lighter viscosity.

Performing a transmission oil cooling system flow test and flush will use between 4.7-7.5 L (5-8 qts) of DEXRON®VI transmission fluid. The amount of transmission fluid (ATF), (DEXRON®VI) (fluid), that is to be charged for the flush portion of the repair should not exceed the allowable charge for 7.5 L (2 gal) of fluid.

Valvoline Dexron VI/Mercon LV ATF is the full-synthetic automatic transmission fluid that has been uniquely engineered to meet and exceed the requirements of the General Motors Dexron VI specification and is officially licensed and approved by GM.

The Dexron VI is backward compatible with any application that calls for D-II or III, but it does add considerable cost to the fluid change when it is not required.

Valvoline MaxLife ATF transmission fluid is 100 percent compatible with the DEXRON VI for mixing or flushing a system.

This fluid technology is designed to replace and supersede previous generation specifications from GM and Ford such as DEXRON III and MERCON/ MERCON V. General Motors officially states that DEXRON®-VI approved fluids are backwards compatible with and should replace all previous generation DEXRON fluids in service.

Dexron is the trade name for a group of technical specifications for automatic transmission fluid (ATF) created by General Motors (GM). The name was first registered as a trademark and later evolved into a brand of GM.

Dexron VI replaced Dexron II and III, and can be used in General Motors domestically built or import transmissions that specified Dexron II or Dexron III. Dexron VI is a low viscosity transmission fluid and should also be used with the full synthetic low viscosity transmission fluid.

While you don't need a transmission flush for your vehicle too frequently, you shouldn't write off this critical car maintenance task. In general, most vehicles need a transmission fluid change every 30,000 miles and flush every 2 years.

The only way to clean a transmission cooler is to use the only transmission cooler flushing machine that can get rid of 99.9999% of debris and contaminants in the cooler. No other mahcine besides Hot Flush can do this. No one can settle for even 90% clean.

Transmission fluid will become foamy if there is too much fluid. Excessive fluid prohibits proper lubrication and cooling and slows the rotating crankshaft, similar to the effect of running through water.

All transmissions have a cooling line that runs to the radiator. A separate fluid passage circulates the transmission fluid through a portion of the radiator to cool the fluid.

Mercon LV, LV is for low viscosity, this fluid is used in later Ford and Mercury vehicles. It usually is for later models from 2008 and newer. It is an synthetic oil. Mercon V is for older Ford models and is also synthetic.

You can mix Dexron III and Dexron VI no problem. If you like, you can take out 3 quarts or so out the dipstick tube and replenish it a couple of times (4 times should do considering ATF capacity) then drop the pan, replace the filter and refill with another 5 quarts.

Dextron III was discontinued and Dextron VI replaced it. Dexton VI is an improved, semi-synthetic blend. Dextron VI is backward compatible, but Dextron III is not forward compatable. GM no longer licenses the Dextron III formula.

There are many types of ATF that meet individual specs for different transmissions. Dexron is one of those types. It replaced Type A ATF back in the 50's. It has been improved many times since then, with the latest version being Dexron VI.

When they started putting lockup TC's in transmissions they had to come up with a different fluid. Originally ATF+, then ATF+2 , then +3, now +4. Do not use Dextron VI in any trans that calls for ATF+4.
