If your drive is encrypted you should decrypt the drive before updating the BIOS otherwise you risk rendering the computer unbootable. Updating the BIOS essentially be another company causing the encrypted data to be unreadable.

Unnecessary step, while ensuring your BIOS is up to date is a safe and essential part of regular IT Maintenance, graphics card compatibility and Motherboard BIOS version are usually a non factor. Please check the graphics card's compatibility matrix as provided by the card manufacturer.

3 Install the graphics card
The next step is to install the graphics card on the motherboard. Avoid touch with your fingers any exposed part of the PCB (printed circuit board) either for the video card or the Motherboard! Ideal scenario, you should use a grounding strap at your wrist, with the grounding terminal connected to a reliable ground. An ESD Safe mat is also recommended.
