How to Delete Photoshop Caches (2024)

Adobe Photoshop isn't useful only to professional photographers and graphic designers. Small businesses use the software to craft brochures, advertisem*nts, logos and Web graphics. Photoshop uses three different memory caches that allow users to revert to a previous version of the project, known as Undo and History, and to copy an image from one location to another, known as Clipboard. As you work on an image and the memory caches grow, you may experience slow computer performance. Deleting the caches increases Photoshop's performance.

  1. 1.

Click "Edit" in the menu at the top of the screen.

  2. 2.

Hover the mouse cursor over "Purge." A window appears on the screen with four purge options: Undo, Clipboard, Histories and All. If one or more of the selections is grayed out, the memory cache for that item is already deleted.

  3. 3.

Select the item with the cache that you want to delete or select "All" to delete the memory of all the items at once. A message appears warning that the you cannot undo the purge.

  4. 4.

Click "OK" to delete the cache.
