In a recent viral TikTok video, a self-proclaimed former Apple sales specialist, Tyler Morgan, issued a cautionary message to iPhone 13 and older model users. He has advised them to avoid updating their devices to the latest operating system, iOS 17. Morgan, who goes by the handle @hitomidocameraroll on TikTok, claims that the iOS 17 update has led to significant issues for older iPhone models.

Morgan's video, which has garnered over 4.6 million views since its posting on September 17, highlights his personal experience with iOS 17. He reports encountering problems like app crashes, lag in media apps such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Netflix, as well as connectivity issues, including Wi-Fi problems. According to Morgan, these issues seem to be intentional on Apple's part, as they prioritize the newer iPhone models with each update, leaving older devices with a subpar user experience.

The former Apple employee further explained that iOS 17 comes with new features like NameDrop and StandBy mode but slows down older iPhones significantly. He believes that iOS 17 was primarily designed for the iPhone 15, and while it may work on iPhone 14, users of iPhone 13 and older models will likely face performance problems.

Despite Apple's push for users to update their devices regularly, Morgan asserts that the iOS 17 update is "absolutely not" necessary for older iPhones. He suggests that this practice of optimizing updates for newer models has been ongoing since the iPhone 4.

As per New York Post, When contacted for a comment, Apple remained silent on the matter.Morgan clarified that iOS 17 is not entirely incompatible with older iPhones, but users can expect a laggy and problematic experience. He also raised concerns about the impact on battery life, stating that older iPhone owners might find themselves charging their devices three to four times a day.

Tyler Morgan advises iPhone users to consider their overall phone experience before updating and emphasizes that if they are satisfied with their current version, it might be best to stick with it. He believes that newer iOS updates are not optimized for older models, potentially making users feel that their one-year-old phones are outdated.
While some TikTok users have reported using iOS 17 on older models without issues, Morgan's warning serves as a reminder that updating to the latest iOS version may not always guarantee a smooth experience on older devices. Users are encouraged to weigh the potential benefits against the drawbacks before making the decision to update their iPhones.
