Language of Death (2024)

The Language of Death (also known as the Language of the Dead) is the secret language spoken by the Cult of the Damned and the Scourge. Described as dark and incomprehensible by those unfamiliar with it, the Language of Death is not only used as a way to encode communiques to be sent between various camps it is also used to cast the particular type of necromancy that members of the Cult of the Damned use. Whereas most necromancers unaffiliated with the Cult use their mother tongue, such as Common, the Cult uses the Language of Death. This simple act imbues the spells with more power.

The Language of Death is written using runes. These written runes are an integral part of the Cult’s necromancy. The rune, Taam, for instance, is translated as “lich” in the Common tongue and is used to raise bone golems and other similar creations. Additionally, the Language of Death in its written form, meaning as runes, can be used to create various other long lasting undead. Whereas if the words of the Language are spoken out loud, the raising of a corpse may be temporary or until the concentrations of the necromancer in question is broken, the writing of the associated runes ensures that the undead persists, but in a catatonic state until such time as the necromancer resumes active manipulations.
