ODU Sports Hall of Fame

I don't know if we have a running list but Mods this can be pinned to the important threads if you see fit.

ODU announced the inductees for the 2024 ODU Sports hall of fame. Two of them are athletes we've talked about a lot on this thread (in my memory) Trey Freeman and Jonathan Plisco. Martin Bradley (Athletic Trainer), Christy Longacre (Field Hockey) and Evan Newton (Men's Soccer) are the other 3 inductees this year. Congrats to all five for your hard work and the mark you left on the department and university!

Trey is without a doubt one of the most talented Monarchs we've had over the last 25 years. I am surprised to see a guy who was not with us his whole career get in the HoF though. Should a guy like Ali Jennings get in?

As much as I enjoyed watching Ali, I don't think I would put him in the HOF. Trey....is there even a second thought?

RE: ODU Sports Hall of Fame

I wonder why Heinicke still has not been selected. I wondered if it was for graduation reasons but according to the guidelines:

"GUIDELINES FOR SELECTION
Athletes will become eligible for consideration eight years after they have completed their eligibility, and have graduated from ODU or any accredited school with a bachelor's degree. Exceptions for athletes who have left the university prior to their class graduation date and were in good standing pursuant to ODU and NCAA academic requirements, may be made with prior approval from the athletic director and a 2/3rds majority vote of the committee. These athletes will become eligible eight years after their normal class graduation date. The ODU Athletic Communications Office is responsible for compiling the candidates eligibility lists along with a list oftheir athletic and academic achievements. Once a candidate becomes eligible for consideration, he/she will be placed on a current list for four years, and subsequently moved to an Active list for five years, and an Old Timers list for five years."

I would imagine no committee member would be opposed to selecting him as he has been the most popular athlete to come from here and is a great ambassador for the university as well as has given back a lot. He is a first ballot hall of famer and his 8 year wait period would have been 2023

Let's schedule a homecoming on a Falcons bye week ODU Sports Hall of Fame (33)

Kidding, I know it's not that easy lining up schedules for NFL and college teams

He'll certainly get in at some point. I honestly expect there will be a statue by the stadium one day too. I do think we should reserve jersey retirement for athletes who graduated from ODU, so hopefully Heinike will take that last class at some point.

M13, do you know if TH completed his second attempt at earning a degree? I remember reading an article a few years ago where TH mentioned switching to a different degree program to graduate more quickly, but I haven’t heard any updates since then.

Ali, not even close. Ronnie Cameron was inducted last year and is a non four year guy.

Edit: corrected spelling. An indictment of my spelling abilities.

I dont think so. I would imagine if he had, all of us would know given his importance to the program and celebrity. But we've made headway on landing an interview with him and if we can nail it down, we will definitely ask him all about his progress there.

We'd race back to our seats toward the end of halftime to watch him warm up. Always put in a show.

I always thought he had the leg power to be a legitimate NFL punter, but our offense lining up on 4th down with the option of TH punting really hurt his chances unfortunately. We had some great special teamers back then

My guess is there is something the NFL didn't like; whether it be release time or hang time bc the dude could boot the heck out of it.

I feel like this is something you can coach, but alas it's a moot point as it's been a decade and I'm sure he has fully moved on haha
