There are so many ways to save money on groceries. Coupons can be a great way to save money. If you have a hard time staying organized enough to keep track of them, or just don’t have the time, you may be looking for other options. Paying full-price for groceries is so expensive, so it may be necessary to figure out something else.

Money saving tips:

  • Plan ahead, figure outwhat you need and make a list.
  • Plan meals based on what you already have and what’s on sale.
  • Buy produce when it’s in season. You can buy large amounts of strawberries, raspberries and blueberries when they’re on sale. Wash and dry them and then freeze them to use the rest of the year.
  • Try to combine coupons or rebates with store sales. Stock up on items you frequently buy during sales.
  • Use apps (below)and combine current deals with store sales.

This is a way to earn points for walking into certain stores and opening their app at the door. You can also earn points by scanning specific items in the store. It could be a good app for you, depending on how much you shop.

Smithscard (or your local store card)

Living in Utah, I am very close to severalSmiths stores and so I end up shopping there a lot. It’s so easy to download coupons to the Smiths shopper card.

Every Friday they offer a coupon for one free item. All you need to do is to go in once each week to dowload that and any other coupons you might use. If you’re not near Smiths, checkout the deals at your local store.

It’s surprising how many great grocery deals can befound on Amazon. Their prices can change quickly though, so if you see a great deal, you might want to snag it before the price changes. You can shop from home without dragging the kids to the store and yourgroceries are delivered right to your door.

Receipt Hog

Download this app on your phone or open it online. When you set up your account you can enter card numbers from certain stores, but others you will need to submit your receipt in order to get a rebate.

This isn’t really an app, but a great blog that puts together lists of weekly deals.

Keep it simple

The trick to using these apps is to try to be as efficient as possible. I usually download all of my rebates/coupons from the above apps every Friday. Or if there’s another day that I’m watching a movie at home or sitting in the car waiting for my kids, I’ll do it then.

Figure out what works for you
