One thing that drives the Van der Linde gang in Red Dead Redemption 2 is getting back to the stashed treasure in Blackwater, and one person has managed to calculate how much it would be worth in today's money. Although Rockstar released its critically acclaimed open-world title in 2018, it was still one of the biggest Steam games of 2022, and it's not surprising to see why. With such a captivating story, incredible character development, and a believable world, many fans are still jumping into this historical slice of America.
In fact, Red Dead Redemption 2 recently surpassed 50 million sales, which is a phenomenal milestone. Although Rockstar is largely known for its flagship Grand Theft Auto series, the developer's Wild West franchise is just as highly praised, albeit lacking somewhat in terms of sales figures. However, it does prove that RDR still has a strong community, and fans seem more than keen to dive into the nitty-gritty details about the game and its immense world.

In a recent post on Reddit, a Red Dead Redemption 2 player decided to work out roughly how much money Arthur Morgan and the gang left behind in Blackwater. A screenshot uploaded with the post shows that the $150,000 dollars that Van der Linde was trying to retrieve would be worth over $4.5 million today. Specifically, had the story taken place in January 2023, the outlaws would have been chasing exactly $4,579,132.65. Given this figure, it's easy to appreciate why everyone was so eager to get it back.
For those who haven't played the game, Red Dead Redemption 2 takes place after the Blackwater massacre, a botched heist that forces the gang to flee and go into hiding. The main story then follows protagonist Arthur and the rest who are working to earn some extra money, evade the law, and eventually go back to where this vast fortune was hidden before they made a run for it. The calculated figure really does highlight just how important this money is to the gang, so it's not much of a surprise that it serves as a major plot device.
With its strong focus on narrative and character, not to mention it being one of the most gorgeous video games ever made, Red Dead Redemption 2 is still pulling in many players. Rockstar may be moving on from it to focus on GTA 6, but it's not going to go away any time soon, especially with plenty of fans still willing to take on the role of Arthur Morgan.
