At King Soopers, we strive to make every customer satisfied with their shopping experience. If you need to return a product for any reason, please review the following policies for grocery items, pharmacy purchases, alcohol returns, and more.

General Return Guidelines

  • Original receipts or proofs of purchase are required for all returns and exchanges.
  • Returns must be made within 30 days of purchase unless noted otherwise below.
  • Refunds are issued to the original form of payment whenever possible. Store credit may be issued if the original payment method is unavailable.
  • Return eligibility and refund amounts may vary for promotional, clearance or limited quantity items. Additional restrictions apply for alcohol, prescriptions, etc. as outlined below.
  • King Soopers reserves the right to refuse returns deemed excessive or fraudulent. Purchases made with SNAP benefits cannot be returned for cash refunds – only even exchanges.

Returning Grocery Items

Unopened products

  • Unopened, unused non-alcohol products in clean, resalable condition may be returned within 30 days of purchase for a full refund.
  • Products missing safety seals, showing signs of use, or not in fully resalable condition per King Soopers standards may be denied return or assessed up to a 50% restocking fee.

Opened products

  • Partially used and opened products may be exchanged for an identical item but cannot be returned for refund, except for defective/spoiled items as defined below.
  • Partial refunds are not issued for opened items. The product may be exchanged for another of the same kind or returned for store credit only.
  • Opened or prepared deli, bakery, and restaurant food items cannot be returned due to health regulations.

Defective/spoiled products

  • Products that are broken, damaged, spoiled or defective when purchased new may be exchanged or refunded within 30 days if accompanied by the original receipt.
  • Evidence like photographs may be required to show defective packaging, improper seal, contamination, etc.
  • Items that are damaged after purchase due to improper handling, storage, etc. do not qualify for refund.

Private label products

  • King Soopers’ private label items (Kroger, King Soopers, KS Essentials, etc.) that are defective or unsatisfactory may be exchanged or refunded at any time. No time limit applies.

Product recalls

  • Recalled products may be returned at any time for a full refund with or without a receipt. Proof of recall may be required.

Pharmacy Returns

Unopened over-the-counter items

  • Unopened, unexpired over-the-counter pharmacy merchandise may be returned within 30 days of purchase for a full refund with receipt.

Prescription medications

  • Federal and state laws restrict returns involving prescription medications. Prescriptions may only be returned for product defects or recalls, not because medication was no longer needed or changed.
  • Contact your King Soopers Pharmacy to request disposal of unneeded medications – do not attempt returns or throw them away. Disposal is free and confidential.

Alcohol Returns

Unopened alcohol

  • Unopened alcohol may be returned only if damaged, defective, or otherwise unfit for purchase. Signs of tampering or use will void eligibility for return.
  • Alcohol returns must occur within 5 days of purchase. Original receipt is always required.
  • ID verification is required for all alcohol returns, regardless of who made the original purchase. Only customers aged 21+ may return alcohol.
  • Refunds for unopened alcohol will be in the same form as the original payment.

Opened alcohol

  • No returns are allowed on any opened or consumed alcohol products by state law. This includes wines with broken seals.
  • Partially consumed or opened alcohol cannot be resold and must be disposed of by King Soopers. No exceptions can be made.

Additional Policies

  • Price adjustments:If an item you purchased goes on sale within 7 days, bring your receipt in for an even exchange or price adjustment refund.
  • Double coupons:If coupons fail to double or apply correctly during purchase, bring the original coupons and receipt back for adjustment.
  • Rebate items:Satisfaction guaranteed on all manufacturer???s rebate offers. Make rebate-eligible purchases confidently knowing items can be returned if needed.
  • Plants/flowers:Live plants and flower arrangements may be exchanged (identically) or refunded within a 5 day guarantee or advertised timeframe. Proof of purchase is required.
  • Prepaid cards:Prepaid cards like gift cards cannot be returned or exchanged under any circ*mstances except due to defects. No cash refunds issued.

How to Start a Grocery Return

Returning a recent grocery or household purchase at King Soopers is quick and simple. Please follow these steps:

  1. Bring your receipt– Have your original King Soopers receipt ready, as this is always required for returns and exchanges. Digital receipts in your account or app are also accepted.
  2. Visit Customer Service– Take your items to the Customer Service desk at any King Soopers store along with your receipt. Our staff will inspect the products to verify return eligibility.
  3. Explain reason for return– Let us know why you are returning the items. This helps us resolve any underlying issues.
  4. Choose refund or exchange– Decide if you would like to exchange the product for an identical item, receive a refund to your original payment, or store credit. Some restrictions may apply.

  7. Return alcohol separately– Due to state regulations, alcohol returns must be handled separately. Have your ID ready as we process your refund.
